The American company Amazon plans to lay off 10 thousand people in the coming days (this is 3% of the corporation’s staff or less than 1% of all employees). The measure will affect employees of the technical department engaged in the development of its own devices Amazon Device, HR and sales departments.
This was reported by The New York Times, citing sources within the company. Amazon has not officially commented on the cuts.
Two weeks ago, the corporation announced a hiring freeze at its offices. During the pandemic, the Internet giant’s workforce nearly doubled on the back of explosive demand. But at the end of the third quarter, the company’s revenues were down 9% year on year.
If the information is confirmed, the planned layoffs will be the most massive in Amazon’s history. Twitter and Meta also announced massive layoffs in recent weeks.
According to experts, corporations take such measures because of the predicted U.S. recession, which can be caused by tighter monetary policy.
Meanwhile, the day before Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said that during his life he plans to give most of his fortune to charity.
