One of the most commonly spreading scam nowadays is that a person will DM you offering you a job with awesome package and invite you to their project. Once you join the server and do their verification system (usually through links or QR code scanning) your discord account gets hacked.
Never ever do any verification on any server which require you to click any link/scan any QR.
One of the other most commonly spreading scam is NFT/Crypto Fake giveaways scam –
NFT projects will never randomly DM you to tell you that you won some sort of giveaway.
From time to time, NFT projects may hold giveaways but you will never randomly be entered & randomly DM’d.
You will always have to do something in order to enter any giveaway created & you will know if you have entered.
- Always be skeptical of random DMs, especially if they include a link. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
- If you are not certain, please ask someone else first, preferably a experienced NFT Enthusiast or a project founder.
If you do receive a random DM on discord , please:
- right click the user & select “copy ID”
- click the red “REPORT” button DO NOT CLICK ANY LINK THEY HAVE SENT YOU
- report the user to the mods/admins of the mutual server
- disable DMs in all servers to avoid this in the future
IF YOU DO CLICK THE LINK
This likely won’t do anything itself but there are a few things that can happen from here, most likely to be, but not necessarily limited to:
1) asking you to connect your wallet & make/sign a transaction.
2) asking you to enter your seed phrase NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES EVER DO THIS
3) asking you to deposit some amount of eth or btc in order to verify your account to claim the amount that you “won”. you will never claim anything, you will only line their pockets & get nothing back.
